Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Volunteer Opportunity

There is an old saying: "You can't really understand another person's experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes." And that is exactly what the YWCA of San Diego County’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® event asks the San Diego community to do. This fundraising event asks men (and women and children) to literally walk one mile in women's high-heeled shoes as a powerful symbol of their commitment to putting an end to domestic violence. It's not easy, but it's fun and it raises critical funding for the YWCA’s Becky’s House® Domestic Violence Program.

USWA will be volunteering for this event on October 17th. Volunteers would potentially be involved in set up, registration, shoe and goody bag distribution, etc. People who are interested in volunteering for the event should email Princess as soon as possible at princessjreyes@yahoo.com so she can give confirmation for the number of USWA participants. Princess filled out a group application but individual applications for participants are also needed. On the application it will ask if you are part of a group and you should put down SDSU's Undergrad Social Work Association. Space is limited so sign up ASAP if you are interested. The individual application is available at http://form.jotform.us/form/22197502764153

When: Thu, October 17, 6pm – 8pm
Where: ML King Promenade Park, 4th Avenue & K Street, Downtown San Diego, CA 92101

Volunteer at the 9/11 Heroes Run on September 8th

The Undergraduate Social Work Association has found an amazing opportunity to volunteer for the "9/11 Heroes Run San Diego." The 5k run/walk is going to take place Sunday, September 8th 2013. We are looking for people to volunteer on that day from 7-11 and help cheer on the runners/walkers and distribute water.

The event is being put on by The Travis Manion Foundation, and their goal is to "assist our nation's veterans and service members, and support families of fallen heroes."

If you would like to join USWA and help volunteer at this event please email megclauson@gmail.com with your first and last name and your email address as soon as possible, and no later than September 2nd!
